  5.  1.45   Changes/Additions since 1.44:
  6.     - This is the FINAL version of VirusZ II. I stop development here.
  7.       Maybe someone else is interested in continueing my work?
  8.     - This version is built from v1.40, with all the fixes mentioned
  9.       below. The reason for this extra work is simply the fact that
  10.       I don't want to spread my own new GUI system used in VirusZ III.
  11.       As this was partially implemented in versions since v1.41, I had
  12.       to go back to v1.40 and re-implement the newer fixes.
  13.     - The protection code has been removed, this version is not crypted.
  14.       It's again that I don't want to release this mechanism to the
  15.       public as it's used in VirusZ III and xvs.library too.

  17.  1.44   Changes/Additions since 1.43:
  18.     - Added XVS version string to about request just like in VZ III.
  19.       Debugging is easier that way, idea by Jan Andersen.
  20.     - Changed status to FREEWARE for the near future.

  22.  1.43   Changes/Additions since 1.42:
  23.     - Just another small bug fix to make the old program usable.

  25.  1.42   Changes/Additions since 1.41:
  26.     - Replaced call to 'C:Delete' in archive checker with an internal
  27.       routine that does the same. This is much safer. Thanks to Dirk
  28.       Stöcker for the piece of code.
  29.     - Moved ALL virus support code to 'xvs.library'. This had mainly
  30.       two reasons:
  31.       a. the main program gets smaller and thus easier to deal with.
  32.       b. the library is a standard shared library and may be used by
  33.          any other applications as well!!

  35.  1.41   Changes/Additions since 1.40:
  36.     - Fixed bug in device scanner. Thanks to John Marchant for the
  37.       report.

  39.  1.40   Changes/Additions since 1.39:
  40.     - Fixed bug in startup code that must have been in there for a long
  41.       time. This one may have caused some of the problems in the past.
  42.     - Fixed recognition for Addy 0.99 Installer file and Glasnost boot.
  43.       Thanks to Jan Andersen, Dave Jones, Bert Jahn and the others for
  44.       the reports.
  45.     - Added recognition for ScareCrow trojan. Thanks to Jan Andersen.
  46.     - Fixed recognition for Bokor 1.05 and added Bokor 1.01, Bokor 1.06
  47.       and Bokor 1.1 linkviruses. Thanks to Dave Jones and Jan Andersen
  48.       for sending them.
  49.     - Added HitchHiker 4.23 and HNY Clone. Thanks to Jan again.
  50.     - Added Elbereth 1+2, Elbereth 3 + Installer, Elbereth 4, Disnomia
  51.       and Poland linkviruses.
  52.     - Finally I have a little surprise for you: The totally new VirusZ
  53.       preferences program. It's still in beta-state, but only to let
  54.       you test the GUI on your machines. I did my very best to keep out
  55.       any illegal hacks from the size/position calculation code.
  56.       If anything interferes with my GUI on your Amiga, please let me
  57.       know or send me the responsible software/patch.
  58.       I NEED FEEDBACK before I add the new graphic routines to VirusZ
  59.       itself and remove the prefs from VirusZ. Until then, VirusZ will
  60.       look as it does now.

  64. After another 8 exams in July, I'm finally back home. This update is just to
  65. be up-to-date with the viruses, but I'm already working on something new for
  66. VirusZ. Be prepared!

  68.  1.39   Changes/Additions since 1.38:
  69.     - Added new viruses: Bokor 1.05, IO4-Invi Trojan, VMK 3.00 Fake 2,
  70.       Xtruder 3.5 Trojan and BEOL 4 + Installer. Thanks to Jan Andersen
  71.       and others for sending them. Unfortunately I couldn't create a
  72.       working copy of BEOL 4, the file detection should be safe anyway,
  73.       but there's no memory removal code at the moment.

  75. As I get reports from time to time: There seems to be some bug in the file
  76. check, but it never appears on my machine. Directly after selecting the
  77. files to be checked, VirusZ freezes. I've looked through my sourcecode again
  78. and again, but I really don't find a bug. Sorry to Julie Hall and all the
  79. others, but I'm currently not able to find the reason for your problems.

  82. Another problem is the support for ZIP archives. Charlene McNulty wrote to
  83. me that VirusZ doesn't extract zip archives, and all I can say is: yes, you
  84. are right! I've tried all different settings including the one that works
  85. perfectly from Shell (Unzip -qqo %F -d %p), but when started from VirusZ,
  86. Unzip doesn't work. I'll try to check this out until the next release.

  90.  1.38   Changes/Additions since 1.37:
  91.     - Added Hitchhiker 4.11 virus. Thanks to Jan Andersen for sending
  92.       this beast.
  93.     - Fixed recognition code for Illegal Access. This routine sometimes
  94.       recognized uninfected files as virus. Thanks to Dave Jones for
  95.       the example file.
  96.     - Added another copy of BootShop virus. Thanks to Dave Jones again.
  97.     - Added FA58B1EF virus. Thanks to Bruno Clastre for sending me that
  98.       stuff.

  109.     - Added additional filter mechanism to the device detection code
  110.       to avoid problems with CD-ROM drives. These should not appear
  111.       any longer in the bootblock lab. Thanks to Jan Andersen for the
  112.       report about his drive.
  113.     - Rewritten file check code to check data files for viruses too.
  114.       There appeared a macro virus called 'SexGuide' which I've added.

  118. Actually,  version  1.36 should become the XMAS '96 release, but as I had so
  119. many  other  things  to do, this is the first version in 1997.  Another year
  120. has  gone  by  and  I'd  like to thank all folks out there that supported me
  121. through  the  last year(s) with new stuff and money.  At this place I'd also
  122. like  to  thank  Jan  Andersen  and  his  family  for sending that nice Xmas
  123. postcard.   I wish all of you out there the very best for this new year 1997
  124. and  I wish all you virus-coders out there the worst nightmares ever dreamed
  125. by any human being!!

  127.  1.36   Changes/Additions since 1.35:
  128.     - Added new viruses: HD Protect 6.24, COP 15, Trust No-One 1-3.
  129.       Thanks to Jan Hendrik Lots for sending those beasts.
  130.     - Finally implemented the bootblock brain!!! After 3 years of
  131.       laziness in this point I managed to code all the necessary stuff
  132.       to get the brain working. Now VirusZ can learn all your custom
  133.       bootblocks and will no longer report them as unknown.
  134.       See details in the guide at the 'Misc Prefs' chapter and in the
  135.       'Bootblock Lab' section. All formerly disabled buttons are now
  136.       fully working.
  137.     - New distribution site: 'The Realm' is dead, from now on call the
  138.       'Army Shop'. Don't panic, same number, same sysop ;-)
  139.     - Added sort mechanism to brain editor and fixed problems with
  140.       delete function.
  141.     - Added new device detection code that finds all usable devices
  142.       itself and therefore removed 'Devices' from 'Misc Prefs'. Now all
  143.       mounted sector-based drives will be scanned automatically.
  144.       I've tested this routine with SCSI/IDE HDs, SyQuest and CD-ROM
  145.       and it worked fine. Please let me know if it doesn't work properly
  146.       on your system.
  147.     - Added menu item 'Update Devices' to refresh the device list after
  148.       mounting some new drives (eg. SyQuest, CD-ROM etc.).
  149.     - Added two new options to the Background prefs: 'Check All Drives
  150.       On Update' and 'Report Known Bootblocks'. The first option makes
  151.       VirusZ rescan all disks after 'Update Devices', the second option
  152.       enables the report of bootblocks included in the brain by the
  153.       background check.
  154.     - Added possibility to go to Vector Check and Boot Lab directly from
  155.       the background checker if something unusual has been detected.
  156.       This feature was already implemented a few years ago but has been
  157.       removed after rewriting the background code. So now I hope
